Powerstroke Engines Serviced By Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service
Ford 7.3 Liter Powerstroke
The 7.3 Powerstroke V8 diesel engine, designed for the Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 was manufactured from 1999 to mid 2003. The Ford 7.3 Liter is a 16-valve turbocharged engine with horse power ranging from 235 hp to 275 hp. The Ford 7.3 Liter Power Stroke engine has an electronically controlled direct injection system.
Ford 6.0 Liter Powerstroke
The 6.0 Power Stroke V8, 32-valve, 325 hp, turbocharged diesel engine was designed for all Super Duty Ford truck models from 2003 to 2007. This engine has a split shot HEUI fuel injection system. H.E.U.I stands for “hydraulic electronic unit injectors”. The design of the Ford 6.0 Liter Powerstroke engine is vulnerable to the breakdown problems of blown head gaskets and cylinder head cracks. Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service will rebuild your Ford 6.0 Liter Powerstroke engine with precision to ensure your engine lasts.
Ford 6.4 Liter Powerstroke
The 6.4 V8 Powerstroke diesel, 387 cu in, 32-valve, sequential turbocharged engine with 350 hp was designed for Ford Super Duty trucks from 2008 to 2010. The key components of this engine are its high pressure, common rail fuel injection control system and diesel particulate filter (to reduce emissions) and its dual turbochargers.
Ford 6.7 Liter Powerstroke
The 6.7 third generation Power Stroke V8, 30-valve engine is designed for Ford Super Duty trucks and boasts a horse power range of 390 hp to 440 hp. Across the three generations, the Ford 6.7 Liter was designed for the Ford F-Series Super Duty F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks, from 2011 to present. The Ford 6.7 Liter was also designed for the Ford F-Series Chassis Cab F-350, F-450 and F-550 trucks, from 2011 to present. The Ford 6.7 Liter was also designed for the Ford F-650 and F-750 medium duty trucks, from 2015 to present.
Ford Power Stroke Engine DTC Diagnostic Trouble Code
Specific turbo boost sensor and turbo boost pressure DTCs can be clues to a worn out turbocharger in the Ford Power Stroke diesel engines, leading experienced technicians to look in a certain repair direction and test for verification. Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service can check your engine’s turbo boost, look for exhaust leaks, pressure check the charge air cooler, check hoses and clamps and look for soot tracks around the exhaust system.
Checking the turbocharger end play can provide a definitive answer regarding turbocharger failure if the end play is excessive, indicating a worn out thrust washer. The end play tolerance on a turbocharger is minuscule so wear that causes end play can progress toward causing contact between the compressor and turbine wheels rotating at high speed. Checking for, and discovering, excessive end play can save an operator from catastrophic turbocharger failure. If end play progresses too far without repair or replacement, it is possible for a turbocharger to blow apart, sending pieces circulating through the intake and exhaust system.
If your turbocharger requires replacement, it can be a good time to also install a new exhaust manifold gasket, especially if your engine has already provided many years of exhaust leak-free service. Replacing an old gasket will help ensure a proper seal to avoid another exhaust leak anytime in the near future.
White Exhaust From Ford Power Stroke Diesel Engines
White exhaust or smoke emitted from your Ford Powerstroke diesel engine can be caused by raw diesel fuel passing through the exhaust completely unburned, by water or coolant entering the combustion chamber, or by too low of a temperature in the combustion chamber.
White exhaust may be observable as a steady stream of lighter white smoke, as a random puff, a thick cloud or as white exhaust on a cold start which disappears as the engine warms up. Any of these symptoms can be an indication of engine or component failure or damage. Additionally, modern diesel engines are designed to deliberately over-fuel the engine, or one cylinder of the engine, for a brief period to create heat to burn carbon off of the diesel particulate filter (DPF). When this over-fueling function is not operating properly, it can cause white smoke and damage to the engine.
If you schedule a white exhaust diagnosis with Cummins Automotive & Diesel Service, our technicians will run diagnostics to check for the potential that your white exhaust is caused by a clogged fuel filter, low fuel pump pressure, faulty or damaged injectors, incorrect injection timing, low cylinder compression, a blown head gasket, a cracked block or head, contaminated fuel, a leaking oil cooler, worn piston rings, cylinder glazing or faulty glow plugs/module (if equipped with glow plugs).
